If yours was installed more than 10 years ago, it may have a low SEER rating or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. SEER is a measure of the energy efficiency of an air conditioning system. An older unit could have a 6 SEER or 8 SEER rating, compared to new units typically having SEERs of 12 or higher. Upgrading could easily translate in to a 50% energy savings per year!
